NADRA Deck Evaluation Certified Badge (2024-2027).png

You, your family, your pets, your car, even your lawn gets a regular “inspection”. But did you know that it is estimated that 30 million decks are past their useful life and need to be replaced or repaired. It is crucial for homeowners to have their decks inspected to verify the integrity of their deck to ensure user safety as well as help extend the deck’s life-span, improve appearance, and increase livability. We believe it’s not only important for homeowners to check their deck on a yearly basis, but necessary.

CANDANGOS is a member of the North American Deck and Railing Association (NADRA). Outdoor structures like decks are exposed to sun, rain, snow and extreme temperature changes over the years. The need to maintain and inspect them is critical for keeping decks strong and safe. CANDANGOS supports the work of NADRA, which has created campaigns and educational programs, along with certifications for home inspectors, deck builders, remodelers, code officials, engineers, architects, distributors, lumber yards and manufacturers to improve proper installation practices. The organization has also developed checklists and safety awareness information for consumers to assure they have details available to them to evaluate their decks. The information can be found at www.NADRA.org.

“Your roof has a life expectancy. Your windows have a life expectancy. What about your deck?” says Michael Beaudry, executive vice president of NADRA. “Consider the snowfall accumulations from just this past year. These heavy loads cause additional stress on outdoor structures and create a need to evaluate.”

Your deck or patio is exposed to elements. This means moisture and weather cycles become the primary contributing factor to its degradation. Pests, fungal growth and material deterioration are just a few of the issues that can be hard to spot if you’re not trained to do so. It is vital for homeowners to have their decks inspected regularly to not only determine its overall condition, but be aware of any safety concerns to prioritize maintenance or repairs over upgrades or just identify key aspects that will help extend the investment you’ve already made.

As Sy Syms of Syms Corporation used to say in those tv ads in the 1980s - An educated consumer is our best customer. Our goal is simple - to educate you, the consumer, about deck safety and assess the overall condition of your deck. This is done through a visual inspection of the critical aspects of the structure and construction of your deck. Our deck safety inspection includes things such as the ledger board attachment, flashing, fasteners, joists, post to beam structure, decking, stairs, railings and handrails, and site grading/drainage near the deck posts. It is not a cosmetic/design inspection or evaluation.

Residential building codes are updated on a recurring basis, typically every three years. This means that even a deck built within the last 6 months could fail certain aspects of deck safety as new codes, guidelines, and safety measures are introduced.

Raphael Delgado - President of CANDANGOS - has completed the NADRA Deck Certification Professional training and passed the exam and will personally inspect your deck. We recommend that you attend the inspection as this will provide an opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns you may have as well as adding clarity to our findings and report.

Within 48 hours of completing the Deck Safety Inspection you will receive a full report with concise explanations and images of our findings and recommendations on how to remedy any concerns.
